Bloomington City had made a request to use the City of Georgetown’s police car and police officer for 20 hours a month during the summer months. However, Mayor Bunderson was suppose to be sending a proposal to Mayor Van Cleave, but the proposal had never been received. The council tabled the issue until more information was available. Steve Waechtler approached the council informing them of his desire to open a small engine repair business on the property he had just purchase at 568 Stringtown Lane. He would also like to host a swap meet on the property focusing on the resale of snowmobile parts. The property is located in a residential district and is not zoned for business. The council informed him he would need to request a variance for the property or a rezoning change. Mr. Waechtler pressed for the variance. Naomi Sorenson asked the council if she could place her portable car ports 10 feet from her property line instead of the 15 feet that is required in her zone for front yards by Ordinance #27. The council informed her she would need a variance to do so. She asked if the council would consider hosting a public hearing for the variance. The chair entertained a motion from council member Duane Peterson the council schedule a public hearing for August 2, 2011 at 6:30 pm at City Hall to hear comments on the variance for Steve Waechtler adding a business to his property which is zoned for residential use, a variance for Naomi Sorenson requesting a change in front yard set backs, and a variance for Paul Miller requesting a change in side yard set back. Council member Ada DeClark seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken and is as follows: Duane – yes, Gary – yes, Ada – yes. The motion carried the council. Marty informed the council Randy Thompson had left a message stating he would be studying the property on Saturday for the archaeological study. Council member Duane Peterson told the council he had completed the advertising for the Twin Creeks celebration. Council member Ada DeClark suggested the lunch fee be reduced from $1.00 per person to $1.00 per person or $2.00 per family. The council discussed the suggestion. It was decided because the advertising was out to the public the $1.00 per person needed to remain as is.
