June Minutes

Wednesday, September 28th, 2022

June 7, 2022
Those Present: DeLoy Kunz, Greg Kunz, Trenton Morrell, Tee Steadman, Mayor Steve Waechtler, Maintenance Supervisor Shane Clark, City Clerk Lynette Smith, Duke Smith, Greg & Lori Champman, Tyler & Katana Sorensen Family
Meeting called to order: 7:00 pm Invocation: Councilor Tee Steadman
Council President Greg Kunz directed the meeting. The Council entertained a motion from councilor Trenton Morrell to approve the published agenda and was seconded by councilor DeLoy Kunz. All were in favor and the motion carried the council.
The minutes from May 3, 2022, were read aloud by Clerk Smith. Councilor Tee Steadman made the motion to accept the minutes as read. Councilor Trenton Morrell seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried the council.
Tyler & Katana Sorensen came before the council to present ideas for the Twin Creeks Day Celebration this year. It will be held on July 16th, and they have purchased a water dunking machine and want to dunk the council and Mayor. The Council thought that sounded like fun! Some other ideas they have is a fishpond over by the tennis courts, regular activities and some fireworks from the same company that Montpelier uses. She will check with the Fire Marshall Mark Parker and see what requirements we need and will have a brush truck on site. She is working on donations for the fireworks also. Matt Argyle has found us a PA system to purchase off of Amazon and will cost only about $300-500. She will work on a release form for the bounce houses and do a candy cannon on the hour every hour, so everyone has an idea of what time it is for activities and look into cornhole with Mandy & Andy Smith again.
Greg & Lori Chapman are new to the area and came to the council to meet everyone and to inquire about splitting their lot to build a home either to rent or to sell. Greg said he felt like it looks like the City needs some growth and some housing. He also inquired about home businesses and the rules there because they recently sold a screen printing/embroidery business but wondered about doing some online orders or a delivery service.
Duke Smith came before the council to ask for some monetary help with expenses to travel to Perry, Georgia. He qualified for the Jr. High National Finals Rodeo this year in 2 events and with the way fuel prices are right now, it will be an expensive trip. Councilor Greg Kunz made the motion to give Duke $300.00 to help with expenses. Councilor Tee Steadman seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried the council. The council would like him to come and report back on his trip.
Councilor Tee Steadman said he has asked Martinez about his radios, and they are still coming but not here yet. He will keep checking on them. He reported that Curtis McKinney still needs to move his shed and asked about what’s going on with the oil spill, and the foul language/signage at Waterbury’s and Smith’s. A letter will be sent to follow up.
Councilor Trenton Morrell inquired about the tire situation up Stringtown and was told that a letter was sent out. The owners have now moved the tires to the back of the yard instead of the front.
Councilor Greg Kunz said that the culvert he and others use to access property off of Stringtown is disappearing and wants to know if it can be replaced or have some maintenance. Does the Army Core of Engineers need to be involved? Councilor DeLoy Kunz felt like a farmer has a better chance of being able to get the culvert repaired vs. the City.
Police Report: There were 28 contacts for the month of May. It was requested for Martinez to change up his hours again with summer here.

Maintenance Report: Shane gave his report for the month of May and stated that he and Alan have dug a grave and cleaned up the cemetery getting ready for Memorial Day. The land app is pumping. Dry Creek pumping came and pumped into the ponds one time this month. There have been complaints of low pressure in town and so Shane went up to the tanks and looked and the PRV’s are still reading at 70 where it’s been set all along. He replaced a water hookup at Garth Glenn’s also.
Office Business: There are 22 delinquent water and sewer accounts for the month of May. Clerk Smith said she thinks it’s about time for a new computer. This one is 11 years old and since updating to Windows 11 it is extremely slow to boot up and do anything. The office will also be closed from June 15-29th while she is gone traveling to Georgia for Jr. High Nationals.
The chair entertained a motion from Councilor DeLoy Kunz for the council to approve checks and vouchers for the month of May 2022 in the amount of $15,018.72 in the general fund, $10,540.00 in the water fund, and $16,227.86 in the sewer fund, with all funds totaling $41,786.58. Councilor Tee Steadman seconded the motion. All were in favor and motion carried the council.
The chair entertained a motion from Councilor DeLoy Kunz that council adjourns from the June 2022 council meeting at 8:45 pm. Councilor Tee Steadman seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried the council.
Respectfully submitted,

Lynette Smith
City Clerk-Treasurer
